For the last 4 years, I (through my company Static Publishing) have sponsored poetry and essay contest for teenagers. My goal is to keep/get kids writing and into poetry. There are millions of children and teens that have talents in dance, writing, acting, music, painting and other aspects of the arts. But the problem is they are not encouraged. I was in college before I discovered I could write and I loved writing. There are kids like me sitting in classrooms all across America looking for an outlet. Every child won?t grow up to be a doctor or a athlete, they just might become poets or artist. As of recently I had just accepted a staff position at The Detroit Impact Center as a facilitator of their creative writing program.
